Après le début de la construction du canal de Panama en 1904, la ville s'est ensuite étendue plus à l'est, et la vieille ville s'est dégradée assez vite.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Aujourd'hui, elle est en pleine rénovation et l'on peut voir un spectacle impressionnants de bâtiments en construction, de maisons refaites superbes cotoyant des ruines pour ainsi dire.
